THE NEW COVENANT FULFILLED ON THE CROSS

The Old Covenant had the Law of Moses given by the LORD God, animal sacrifice every year to forgive sin, earthly priests, and people lived by the Law. The New Covenant has the Grace of God, Jesus as a sacrifice and the Most High Priest and the Law of Moses written in the heart and living by the Holy Spirit.

THE OLD COVENANT

On Exodus 19:1-4 when Israel left Egypt, they set up a camp at the foot of Mount Sinai and Moses went up the mountain to meet with God. The LORD gave him a message to his people. On verse 5 there's a covenant. GOOD NEWS- Today's English Version

  • 5 Now, if you will obey me and keep my covenant, you will be my own people.
  • 6 and you will serve me as priests

THE 10 COMMANDMENTS

Are found on Exodus 20:1-17. These Laws were given to the generation that came straight out of Egypt.

THE SACRIFICE OF THE OLD COVENANT

Exodus 24
  • 4 Moses wrote down all the LORD's commands. Early the next morning he built an altar at the foot of the mountain and set up twelve stones, one for each of the twelve tribes of Israel.
  • 5 Then he sent young men, and they burnt sacrifices to the LORD and sacrificed some cattle as fellowship-offering.
  • 6 Moses took half the blood of the animals and put it in bowls; and the other half he threw against the altar.

THE SEALING OF THE OLD COVENANT

  • 7 Then he took the book of the covenant, in which the LORD's commands were written, read it aloud to the people. They said, "We will obey the LORD and do everything that he has commanded."
  • 8 Then Moses took the blood in the bowls and threw it on the people. He said, "This is the blood that seals the covenant which the LORD made with you when he gave all these commands."

PRIEST

On verse 9 are priests Moses and the Aaronite priests: Aaron and his sons Nadab and Abihu.

THE OLD COVENANT REPEATED TO THE NEW GENERATION

Deuteronomy 5

  • 1 People of Israel, listen to all the laws that I am giving you today. Learn them and be sure that you obey them.
  • 2 At Mount Sinai the LORD our God made a covenant
  • 3 not only with our fathers, but with all of us who are living today.
Then Moses gave them the 10 commandments 7-21.

  • 22 he gave these commandments and no others. Then he wrote them on two stone tablets and gave them to me.

Deuteronomy 4
  • 1 Then Moses said to the people, "Obey all the laws that I am teaching you..."
  • 5 I have taught you all the laws, as the Lord my God told me to. Obey them in the land that you are about to occupy.
  • 6 Obey them faithfully...
  • 44 Moses gave God's laws and teachings to the people of Israel.

A PROMISE OF A NEW COVENANT

Jeremiah 31
  • 31 The LORD says, "The time is coming when I will make a new covenant with people of Israel and with the people of Judah.
  • 32 It will not be like the old covenant that I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand and led them out of Egypt. Although I was like a husband to them, they did not keep that covenant.
  • 33 The new covenant that I will make with the people of Israel will be this: I will put my law within them and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
  • 34 None of them will have to teach his fellow-citizen to know the LORD, because all will know me, from the least to the greatest. I will forgive their sins and I will no longer remember their wrongs. I, the LORD, have spoken. "

THE LORD BECAME FLESH

Matthew 1

  • 20 an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph, descendent of David, do not be afraid to take Mary to be your wife. For it is by the Holy Spirit that she has conceived.
  • 21 She will have a son, and you will name him Jesus - because he will save people from their sins.
  • 23 A virgin will become pregnant and have a son, and he will be called Immanuel (which means, "God is with us").

John 1:14 The Word became a human being and, full of grace and truth, lived amoung us.

JESUS LIVED UNDER THE LAW OF MOSES

Luke 2 New International Version
  • 21 On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise him, he was named Jesus, the name the angels had given him before he had been conceived.
  • 22 When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.
  • 23 as it is written in the Law of the Lord, "Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord"
  • 24 and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: "a pair of doves or two young pigeons. "
  • 39 When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth.

THE REVELATION OF THE LAW GIVEN GRACE

THE NEW COVENANT IN JESUS AS A CHILD

  • 40 And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon Him.

See here Jesus lived according to the Law but had something completely different from the Law, and that is the Grace of God. The Law was given Grace AND THIS IS A REVELATION.

  • 52 Jesus grew both in body and in wisdom, gaining favour with God and people.

SOMETHING NEW- BAPTISM TO FOR GIVE SIN

When Jesus became flesh and before his death, already the forgiveness of sin changed through John the baptist.

Luke 3:3 "Turn away from your sins and be baptized, and God will forgive your sins."

In the Law of Moses sin was forgiven through animal sacrifice every year. But during the time of Jesus and John the Baptist before Jesus ' death and him raising on the 3rd day of his death, sin was forgiven through turning away from sins and getting baptized.

Nowadays people always use baptism as a way to add more members in their church not for forgiveness of sin.

Jesus also got baptized Luke 3
  • 21 After all the people had been baptized, Jesus also was baptized. While he was praying, heaven was opened,
  • 22 and the Holy Spirit came down upon him in bodily from like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, "You are my own dear Son. I am pleased with you."

ANOTHER REVELATION- NEW COVENANT

Mark 1:8 I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.

This is John the Baptist who said these words that Jesus will baptize us with the Holy Spirit. So there are two baptism, 1 with water 2 with the Holy Spirit.

JESUS WITH THE FULFILMENT OF THE NEW COVENANT

Matthew 5
  • 17 Do not think I have come to do away with the law of Moses and the teaching of the prophets. I have not come to do away with them, but to make their teaching come true
  • 18 Remember that as long as heaven and earth last, not the least point nor the smallest detail of the Law will be done away with - not until the end of all things.

Now what things?

John 19: 30 "It is finished. "

Luke 24 :44 "These are the very things I told you about while I was still with you : everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the writings of the prophets, and the Psalms had come true. "

This was after his crucification, death and raising from the dead after 3 days.

NEW COVENANT FULFILLED -OUT WITH THE OLD COVENANT

When Jesus was crucified on the cross he said, "It is finished. " John 19 : 30. The New Covenant began and it was out with the Old Covenant. Find out more about The Law was given Grace

Hebrews 7
  • 18 The old rule, then, is set aside, because it was weak and useless
  • 19 For the Law of Moses could not make anything perfect. And now a better hope has been provided through which we come near to God.

Hebrews 8
  • 7 If there had been nothing wrong with the first covenant, there have been no need for a second one.
  • 8 But God finds fault with his people when he says, "The days are coming, says the Lord, when I will draw up a new covenant with the people of Israel and the people of Judah.
  • 9 It will not be like the covenant that I made with their ancestors on the day I took them out of Egypt. They were not faithful to that covenant I made with them, and so I paid no attention to them.
  • 10 Now this is the covenant that I will make with the people of Israel in the days to come, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.
  • 11 None of them will have to teach their fellow-citizens or say to their fellow-citizens, 'Know the Lord' For they will all know me, from the least to the greatest.
  • 12 I will forgive their sins and will no longer remember their wrong. "
  • 13 By speaking of a new covenant, God had made the first one old and anything old and worn out will soon disappear.

LIVING BY THE HOLY SPIRIT - NEW COVENANT

2 Corinthians 3
  • 5 There is nothing in us that allows us to claim that we are capable of doing this work. The capacity we have comes from God
  • 6 It is he who made up capable of serving the new covenant, which consists of not a written law but of the Spirit. The written Law brings death, but the Spirit gives life.

Romans 8
  • 1 There is no condemnation now for those who live in union with Christ Jesus
  • 2 For the law of the Spirit, which brings us life in union with Christ Jesus, has set me free from the law of sin and death
  • 6 To be controlled by human nature results in death; to be controlled by the Spirit results in life and peace.
  • 9 Whoever does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him,
  • 15 For you did not receive the spirit that makes you slave again to fear
Fear? To fear Father God like the Old Testament way.
  • 15 but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father. "

Him? The Spirit. Now Jesus Christ died to free us from condemnation, separation from Father God so we could no longer be his servants but his children.

  • 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirt that we are God's children.

Galatians 4
  • 4 But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law
  • 5 to redeem those under the law, that we might recieve the full rights of sons
  • 6 Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, "Abba, Father. "

JESUS CHRIST OUR MOST HIGHLY PRIEST

Jesus Christ is our priest and not just a priest, our Most High Priest. He made one sacrifice and purifies us of our sins, with his blood. There are no more earthly priests for Jesus lives forever, no one success him. He went to the very real Temple sitting next to our heavenly Father, God. He made things easy for us. We pray to Jesus for anything not to go to humans even for the forgiveness of sins.

Hebrews 4
  • 14 Let us, then, hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we have a great High Priest who has gone into the very presence of God- Jesus, the Son of God.
  • 16 Let us have confidence, then, and approach God's throne, where there is grace. There we will recieve mercy and find grace to help us just when we need it.

Hebrews 5:1 Every high priest is chosen from his fellow-men and appointed to serve God on their behalf, to offer sacrifices and offerings for sins.

Hebrews 7
  • 22 This difference, then, also makes Jesus the guarantee of a better covenant.
  • 23 There is another difference: there were many of those other priests, because they died and could not continue with their work.
  • 24 But Jesus lives on for ever, and his work as priest does not pass on to someone else.
  • 25 And so he is able, now and always, to save those who come to God through him, because he lives for ever to plead with God for them.
  • 27 He offered one sacrifice, once and for all, when he offered himself.

Hebrews 8:1 we have such a High Priest, who sits at the right of the throne of the Divine Majesty in heaven
